The tears, the anger, the shattered respect—they’re too much to think of. So often men don’t think of it. They promise God to do better, resolving to keep it between them. David’s statement in Psalm 51:4 functions to magnify the rightness of God’s judgment against him, not to lessen his guilt before others.
